GIS Design and Implementation
At Axis, we have a diverse and experienced team at all phases of GIS design and development. Advanced planning and design eliminate redundant tasks and wasted hours of unnecessary work. Every organization and every project is unique and a needs assessment will ensure accurate representation of your data.

Research

  • What is the goal of this project?
  • What area is being considered and what are the spatial extents?
  • Who will be the users of the data?
  • What software and/or hardware will be needed?

Data

  • What data will be required to accomplish the project goals?
  • What is the inventory of available data (in house, Internet, hard copy maps, etc.)?
  • Should data be field collected or digitized, scanned from hard copy maps, converted or purchased?
  • Will imagery be required?

System Requirements

  • What components currently exist in-house?
  • What additional hardware is required and what are the costs?
  • How will these components be integrated with the current system?
  • What are the users’ needs?

Methodology

  • What will be the logical flow of data?
  • Will analysis be performed on this data and if so what type?
  • How do we depict a flow diagram to display the logical flow of data?

Database Design

  • How will the data be represented (points, lines, polygons, raster, surfaces, CAD, tables)?
  • In what database format – personal or enterprise – should the data be registered?
  • What datasets will be created to best categorize each of the themes?

Training

  • Will training be necessary for end users?
  • Will additional support be called for in order for GIS personnel to maintain the new system?

Implementation

  • Prepare a pilot study.
  • Are the day to day operations being met?
  • Is the loading and transfer of data adequate?
  • Are there additional requirements needed to maintain performance?
